Was mir heute passiert ist, das glaubt mir keiner.

Nobody believes what happened to me today.

Als ich zu Mittag nichts ahnend in der Küche beim Kochen stand, läutete mein Handy.

As I stood innocently cooking lunch in the kitchen, my mobile phone rang.

Eine Frauenstimme erklärte mir, dass meine Brieftasche in der Bankfiliale abgegeben worden war und ich sie dort abholen könnte.

A woman's voice explained to me that my wallet had been handed in at the bank branch and that I could pick it up there.

Mir wurde ganz heiß – mir war noch gar nicht aufgefallen, dass sie fehlte.

I felt really hot – I hadn't even noticed she was missing.

Und ich hatte ja auch noch relativ viel Bargeld eingesteckt!

And I also had quite a lot of cash with me!

Schnell holte ich meine Handtasche hervor und suchte nach der Brieftasche.

I quickly took out my handbag and looked for my wallet.

Es stimmt! Auch nach längerem Kramen in der Tasche konnte ich sie nicht finden.

That's right! Even after rummaging around in my bag for a long time, I couldn't find it.

Mein Geld war tatsächlich verschwunden!

My money had actually disappeared!

Ich machte mich also auf den Weg zur Bank und überlegte, wo ich meine Brieftasche liegen gelassen hatte.

So I made my way to the bank, wondering where I had left my wallet

Sicherlich im Supermarkt an der Kasse.

Certainly at the checkout in the supermarket.

Jedenfalls kam ich bei der Bank an und war schon gespannt darauf zu erfahren, wo meine Brieftasche gefunden worden war und natürlich, ob etwas fehlte.

In any case, I arrived at the bank and was eager to find out where my wallet had been found and, of course, whether anything was missing.

Die Bankangestellte teilte mir mit, dass ein junger Mann die Brieftasche abgegeben hatte.

The bank employee informed me that a young man had handed in the wallet.

Er hatte sie auf dem Parkplatz vor dem Supermarkt gefunden und wollte sie eigentlich ins Fundbüro bringen.

He had found them in the parking lot in front of the supermarket and actually wanted to take them to the lost and found office.

So wie man es in so einem Fall eben macht.

That's just how you would do it in such a case.

Der Weg dorthin war für ihn zu weit und so suchte er nach einer anderen Möglichkeit, mir die Brieftasche zurückzugeben.

The journey there was too far for him, so he looked for another way to return my wallet.

Das muss man sich einmal vorstellen: Er war so clever, dass er auf der Bankomatkarte nach meinem und dem Namen meiner Bank suchte

Just imagine: He was so clever that he searched for my name and the name of my bank on the ATM card.

Die Bank würde ja die Kontaktdaten zu meinem Namen haben und könnte mich so anrufen.

The bank would have the contact details associated with my name and could call me that way.

Er fuhr in die nächste Filiale meiner Bank und dank der Computervernetzung der Filialen konnte meine Telefonnummer schnell herausgefunden werden.

He drove to the nearest branch of my bank and, thanks to the computer network connecting the branches, my phone number was quickly found.

Da stand ich nun mit meiner Brieftasche, die mir beim Verlassen des Supermarktes aus der Handtasche gerutscht sein muss.

There I stood with my wallet, which must have slipped out of my handbag as I left the supermarket.

Zum Glück war alles noch da!

Luckily, everything was still there!

Ich bin sooo froh, dass diese Episode so gut ausgegangen ist.

I'm so glad this episode turned out so well.

Nun weiß ich leider gar nicht, wie ich dem ehrlichen Finder danken kann.

Das Dorf Fehlheim in Brandenburg macht sich unabhängig von Öl und Kohle.

The village of Fehlheim in Brandenburg is becoming independent of oil and coal.

Seit kurzem deckt das Dorf seinen kompletten Strombedarf und drei Viertel des Wärmebedarfs durch moderne Energien.

The village has recently begun covering its entire electricity needs and three-quarters of its heating needs with modern energy sources.

„Das funktioniert mithilfe einer modernen Anlage für Bio-Gas", erklärt der Diplom-Physiker Eckhard Meier.

"This works with the help of a modern biogas plant," explains physicist Eckhard Meier.

„Da kommen Abfall von den Tieren, Getreide und Holz rein und werden erwärmt. Ein Motor verbrennt das Gas und erzeugt dabei Wärme. Der Motor treibt dann einen Generator an, der Strom produziert."

"Animal waste, grain, and wood are put in and heated. An engine burns the gas, generating heat. The engine then drives a generator that produces electricity."

Entstanden ist die Idee des „Bio-Energiedorfs" an der Universität Göttingen.

The idea for the “bio-energy village” originated at the University of Göttingen.

Ziel der Wissenschaftler war es zu zeigen, dass es möglich ist, ein Dorf komplett mit erneuerbaren Energien zu versorgen und damit einen Beitrag zum Klimaschutz zu leisten.

The scientists' goal was to demonstrate that it is possible to supply a village entirely with renewable energy and thus contribute to climate protection.

Tatsächlich: Die Bio-Gasanlage erzeugt jährlich doppelt so viel Strom wie die Gemeinde verbraucht.

In fact, the biogas plant generates twice as much electricity annually as the community consumes.

Der Rest wird in das Stromnetz abgegeben und kostenlos anderen Dörfern zur Verfügung gestellt.

The remainder is fed into the electricity grid and made available to other villages free of charge.

Passt das Konzept auch für andere Dörfer? „Im Prinzip schon", meint Eckhard Meier.

Die technischen Anlagen könnten an anderen Orten genauso aufgebaut werden - der Raumbedarf ist gering.
